Bear Encounters
There is a bear actively breaking into cabins up and down the highway 50 corridor. CAFW collects DNA after bear break-ins. This bear has over 65 hits. Since most people don’t report break-ins, this bear has probably broken into well over a hundred places. This bear started in Meyers and has migrated up to the 50 corridor. It moves around a lot and repeated visits the same cabins. While no one wants to see a bear put down, this bear has become a danger and is causing a lot of damage. Bears are not relocated anymore because there is no place big and empty enough of people that the bear won’t find humans and start all over. CAFW is actively trying to trap this bear. If you have a bear break in, you are encouraged to call the number above and report it. They will most likely send someone out to collect DNA.

Bryant Creek/46 Milestone Bear Reports
8-13 Cabin occupants awoken around 3 am to sounds a bear. They scared it off.
6-26 (give or take a day)
Bear broke into cabin’s 2, 12 and 13. Both cabins have a barking dog thing that barks when it senses movement. One had poured pinesol across the door. One had bear boards. In all cases the bear ripped down the shutter. In two case, it broke the window. In one case, it looks like the window was left open. One can tell from the size of the window opening the bear wasn’t very big; though, they are amazing at getting through small spaces. It could have been a mama and a cub. It’s known for the mothers to lift and shove their cubs into smaller openings. In one case, the bear didn’t much but as you can tell from the pic, in the other there was a feast.
Probably same bear also broke into three cabins in 46 MS across the river from 12 and 13
6-11 Bear walking down cabin road. Some say this bear is the “mama” bear and has a limp having been hit by a car. Others not so sure.
